Teenage Scammer, Accomplice Remanded For $40m Scam

Two fraudsters Tobechukwu Igbokwe (Alias David Prince)and his accomplice Ifeanyi Obi who are alleged to have duped an America of $40million are to remain in prison until December 3, 2013. Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High, Ikeja on Monday October 28, 2013 remanded the duo in prison custody after they were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a 12- count charge bordering on forgery, conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 8(a) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No 14 of 2006.

Specifically, Igbokwe, 19 year-old secondary school leaver, was alleged to have severally duped his victims, many of them foreigners of huge amounts of money through the internet under fraudulent guises. He allegedly worked in concert with Obi to dupe an American, Micheal Silva of $40 million in an inheritance scam. Silva was made to believe that Igbokwe and his accomplice had a huge inheritance which they wanted to move to a foreign account for safe-keeping.

The victim was asked to send money to “process” the transfer and in the process, he wired $40m in several installments through Western Union Transfer to Igbokwe and Obi.

Igbokwe also confessed that he had duped other foreigners among them a Tommy Bedwell- who lost $6,000 to him and Richard Hunt-$15,000.

One of the charges against Igbokwe and Obi reads: “Tobechukwu Igbokwe (alias David Prince) (alias John Emma) sometimes in the month of October 2011 at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud obtained $800 (Eight Hundreds Dollars),$700(Seven Hundred Dollars), $200(Two Hundred Dollars) $400(Four Hundred Dollars), $200(Two Hundred Dollars), $300(Three Hundred Dollars), $500(Five Hundred Dollars), $500(Five Hundered Dollars) $500(Five Hundred Dollars) $200(Two Hundred Dollars); totalling $5,500 (Five Thousand Five Hundred Dollars) which sum you obtained separately from Michael Silva of the United States of America under false pretence that the money represent part payment for processing inheritance funds due to him as a beneficiary of the fund and which pretence you knew was false”.

When the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
EFCC counsel, Fadeke Giwa prayed the court for a trial date and to remanded the accused persons in prison custody.
However, counsel to the first defendant, D. A Omougbai asked for a short date to file his bail application. Also, counsel to the second defendant, D. A Eimuejel prayed the court to accept the bail application he filed on behalf of his client.

Justice Akapo, however, adjourned the matter till December 3, 2013 and ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos.

[VIDEO] Check Out This 14-Year-Old Nigerian And Chelsea Wonder Kid Habib Makanjuola Currently At The FIFA Under-17 World Cup

habib and terry

Habib Makanjoula is currently representing Nigeria at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, despite being just 14-years-old.

Ever heard of a young man by the name of Habib Makanjoula? No, well get used to it because at 14-years-old he is the youngest player to have played so far at this year’s Under-17 FIFA World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The FIFA Under-17 World Cup is currently under way, and the tournament that has previously unearthed gems such as Cesc Fabregas, Toni Kroos and Landon Donovan is sure to discover a few more for teams from thePremier League and around the globe to purr over.

Makanjoula however is already one of them, after signing for Chelsea in August 2012.

He said at the time that Barcelona, Lyon and Manchester United were all also interested in his talents, but he liked the development facilities at Chelsea so chose The Blues as the club to help him realise an ambitious dream:

‘’I settled for Chelsea because of their youth development programmes. I am confident that with what I saw in the club, I will realize my ambition to become the world’s best football player at the age of 17.’’

Wow, such self-belief for one so young, but he does have the skills to achieve his dream – at least, ball juggling skills that is.

Makanjoula won the Red Bull World Football Juggling tournament in South Africa back in 2010 – at the age of 12.

He even performed in front of 80,000 people at a Christian convention in the same year, receiving a scholarship to study in England as a reward for his excellence.

He moved to Cambridge, and then had his trials at Chelsea which got him to this point today – 14-years-old and playing among the best 17 and 16-year-olds in world football.

How he can translate his mesmerising skills onto the pitch remain to be seen, and despite wearing the number ‘7’ shirt in UAE he has only so far featured as a late substitute against Mexico.

But Chelsea fans, remember the name Habib Makanjoula – because if he lives up to his own expectations, he is going to be a household name in three years’ time.

Here is a video of him performing his ball-juggling routine … and before you criticise the final minute or so remember this…

He is 12-years-old at the time in front of 80,000 people! Watch the video below;

Husband Catches His Wife Red Handed With Lover In A Hotel : SEE PHOTO

With this kind of mess, it is getting clearer these days that some married women are living with their husband but carrying the baby of another man inside the same house. Immorality of the highest order!

It was the end of the road for this promiscuous married woman as her husband caught her in a local hotel as she was busy doing things with her lover. Unfortunately, the woman, said to be very quiet and acting like she can’t even hurt a fly, is already pregnant.

The husband stormed the cheap hotel where his quiet wife was “enjoying” herself following a tip-off, and he was shocked beyond words. He is now doubting if he is indeed responsible for his wife’s pregnancy.

A source say the man she followed to the hotel was her former boyfriend before she got married recently.

Some women are just poison…too bad!

Police Shoot And Kill 13-Year-Old Boy Carrying Toy Gun

Dozens of people marched through the Santa Rosa neighborhood where a 13 year old boy was shot and killed by one of two sheriff’s deputies, after the deputies mistakenly thought the toy rifle was a real assault weapon.

Santa Rosa Police, who are handling the shooting investigation, say the deputies stopped their marked patrol car on Tuesday afternoon at 3:14 and told Andy Lopez twice to put down the gun.

Police say Lopez had his back to the deputies, who didn’t realize he was so young.

Instead, they say, Lopez turned with the barrel of the gun pointing toward them.

Police say the deputies feared for their lives and one of them opened fire.

“The deputy then fired several rounds from his service weapon at the subject,” said Lt. Paul Henry, “striking him at least one time. The subject immediately fell to the ground.”

But one neighbor said he saw something different.

Ethan Oliver says he lives across the street and came outside after he heard two gun shots.

He says by that time Lopez was already on the ground.

“Then the cops went at it again and unloaded like 6 to 7 shots,” said Oliver.

When asked if he meant that the deputy shot Lopez while he was on the ground, Oliver said, “Yeah. Exactly what I saw.”

Authorities haven’t responded to that statement.

During a Wednesday afternoon news conference police displayed a real assault weapon and the “air soft” carried by the teen to demonstrate how difficult it is to tell them apart.

But one neighbor said police should know the difference.

“They kinda look the same,” said Christina Avila, “but at the same time if you’re law enforcement your job is to know what’s real and what’s fake.”

Greg Kestel said he used to work in the neighborhood, and said the teen wasn’t doing anything that a teen in any other part of the county wouldn’t be doing.

“If this is like anywhere else in rural Sonoma County and a kid with a pellet gun, they wouldn’t have done nothing to him,” said Kestel. “But this urban area they just blast the kid.”

Maritza Gallardo, 12, said she simply misses seeing her 13 year old cousin.

“It did hurt. It hurts a lot that he’s gone,” said Gallardo.

The Santa Rosa and Petaluma police departments were joining with the District Attorney’s office in the investigation of the shooting while the two deputies were on administrative leave.

US denies tapping Merkel's mobile phone

US President Barack Obama had assured German Chancellor Angela Merkel that the US is not monitoring her communications, according to the White House spokesman.

Carney's statement on Wednesday comes in response to the German government's announcement that it has obtained information suggesting the US may have tapped Merkel's mobile phone.

Merkel called Obama to demand an immediate clarification, her spokesman said in a statement.

"She made clear that she views such practices, if proven true, as completely unacceptable and condemns them unequivocally," the statement read.

"Between close friends and partners, as Germany and the US have been for decades, there should not be such monitoring of the communications of a government leader. This would be a grave breach of trust. Such practices should be immediately stopped."

'Shared security challenges'

For its part, the White House denied that the US is listening in on Merkel's phone calls now.

"The president assured the chancellor that the United States is not monitoring and will not monitor the communications of the chancellor," spokesman Jay Carney said.

"The United States greatly values our close cooperation with Germany on a broad range of shared security challenges."

However, Carney did not specifically say that the US had never monitored or obtained Merkel's communications.

The news broke as Secretary of State John Kerry, on a visit to Rome, faced fresh questions about mass spying on European allies, based on revelations from Edward Snowden, the fugitive ex-US intelligence operative granted asylum in Russia.

French President Francois Hollande is pressing for the US spying issue to be put on the agenda of a summit of European leaders starting on Thursday.

French newspaper Le Monde reported earlier this week that the National Security Agency (NSA) had collected tens of thousands of French phone records.

Just four months ago, Obama defended US anti-terrorism tactics on a visit to Berlin, telling Germans at a news conference with Merkel that Washington was not spying on ordinary citizens.

K1 Denies Romance With Dayo Amusa

Photo: K1 Denies Romance With Dayo Amusa

Dayo is my area daughter. She is a lady I saw a lot of potentials in, and she is doing so well in her career. When she came across me, I discovered the good talent in her, and I believed the only thing she needs was encouragement and support one can give her and that I did. And I never regretted doing that. She is a very focused lady. I never regretted knowing Dayo Amusa. Where she needs pet talk, I give her. When we talk of assistance, it doesn’t necessarily have to be financial, it could be in form of chit-chat, giving one or two pieces of advice on what could keep one in line. And every other good thing you can do to support that kind of person. She also has counted me as a good father, and I also see a good daughter in her. I never regret knowing her. People should just stop saying what’s not right about Dayo Amusa and myself. When you see two people together, you don’t start insinuating what’s not the true position of things between the two because doing that, you’re not helping the growth of the entertainment sector.

                                    mr latin

Lanre Adedeji, the former Personal Assistant to Nollywood actor, Bolaji Amusan aka Mr Latin has committed suicide in the United States where he had been living since 2012.

He was said to have settled in Minnesota in 2012, when he decided to stay back after a tour with Mr Latin, after being his PA for about 8 years. He was said to have moved to Texas, where things got better for him and he was able to acquire some exotic cars and lived a good life. This however changed this year, when he was said to have started behaving strangely (this was adduced to spiritual attacks), and that all efforts by friends met brickwall as he didn’t speak with anyone. Mr Latin was eventually able to speak with and encouraged, when he told him all the happenings around him.

Unfortunately, he ended it all by jumping inside a river, and his friends got to know about the situation when the American brought his ID card to them. Depression is real. He needed professional help to sort out his demons, but unfortunately he didn’t get it.

Very Funny!!!!! Herbalists back ASUU as students kick

Students have called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities not to betray them in the on-going strike. They said they would not like a situation when the strike would be called off without achieving anything.

This came as herbalists in Oyo State pledged their support for ASUU.

According to the President of the herbalists in the state, Dr. Arunoyemi Asanlaye, “we are in support of ASUU on the on-going strike”.

The students in large number at a town hall meeting, tagged, Save Public Education Campaign, which was organised by ASUU, UI chapter at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan Monday showed their displeasure at the seeming docility and indifference of the Nigeria Labour Congress calling on the labour union to embark on solidarity strike to force government to respond to ASUU demands.

Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, Chairman, ASUU UI chapter, said the union would use any method to actualize their demands clarified that the struggle was not about the salaries of lecturers but the funding of education in the country.

Ajiboye said, “We are using so many methods. We cannot tell you when to move to Bodija Market. That is part of our strategies.

Instead of begging ASUU, the government should declare a state of emergency in the education sector”.

Responding to the call by the students, Mr. Bashir Olanrewaju, NLC Chairman in Oyo State, said, “By Wednesday, we will come out with a more proactive stance on the strike. Though, students have called on us to go on strike, we will not go on strike now. We will only mediate. If an affiliate has a problem, joining it in strike will collapse the whole system.

We have never been docile about the incident”.

Prof. Remi Raji, lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, said, ”Government should look at the NEEDS Assessment report. It is almost a year now that the 169 recommendations had been made and nothing has been done.

Salary of lecturers is just one of the nine demands of ASUU”.

Skull Fossil Challenges Evolutionary History

The discovery of a 1.8-million-year-old skull of a human ancestor buried under a medieval Georgian village offers new evidence that early man was a single species with a vast array of different looks, researchers have said.

With a tiny brain about a third the size of a modern human's, protruding brows and jutting jaws like an ape, the skull was found in the remains of a medieval hilltop city in Dmanisi, according to the study published in the journal Science.

It is one of five early human skulls - four of which have jaws - found so far at the site, about 100km from the capital, Tbilisi, along with stone tools that hint at butchery and the bones of big, saber-toothed cats.

Lead researcher David Lordkipanidze, director of the Georgian National Museum, described the group as "the richest and most complete collection of indisputable early Homo remains from any one site".

"This is important to understanding human evolution," he said.

The skulls vary so much in appearance that under other circumstances, they might have been considered different species, said co-author Christoph Zollikofer of the University of Zurich.

"Yet we know that these individuals came from the same location and the same geological time, so they could, in principle, represent a single population of a single species," he said.

For years, some scientists have said humans evolved from only one or two species, much like a tree branches out from a trunk, while others say the process was more like a bush with several offshoots that went nowhere.

The researchers have compared the variation in characteristics of the skulls and found that while their jaw, brow and skull shapes were distinct, their traits were all within the range of what could be expected among members of the same species.

8-Months Pregnant Power Forward Lead team to Victory (VIDEO)

                                     Rebekkah Brunson heavily pregnant

The Minnesota Lynx swept the Atlanta Dream Thursday night to clinch their second WNBA championship in three years, led by several dominant performances from 31-year-old, eight-months pregnant Rebekkah Brunson.

Brunson, a 6-foot, 2-inch tall, 215-pound power forward who recently entered her third trimester, averaged 26 points and 14 rebounds in the series and was by all accounts the Lynx’s biggest threat on both ends of the floor.
“Rebekkah was really the difference-maker, there’s no question about that,” said Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, adding that Brunson’s low-post game has drastically improved since putting on 40 pounds over the past few months. “She did it all—blocking shots, snagging rebounds, and absolutely dominating in the paint. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player just blow through the lane like that. No one could guard her.”
“When she threw her weight around down low, she was unstoppable,” Reeve continued. “Rebekkah was boxing out every other player on the court to get rebounds, and to do that against a team as good as the Dream was really something special.”
According to Reeve, Brunson’s commanding presence in the key and 37-centimeter baby bump set the tone for Minnesota’s success against Atlanta. In addition to converting a host of contested layups, Brunson frequently set picks on the perimeter, leading to a number of wide-open three-pointers for her teammates. The 10-year WNBA veteran whose due date is Nov. 8 also drew nine charges over the course of three games while on defense.
Furthermore, many analysts said the highlight of the entire series came when Brunson knifed through three Dream defenders during a fierce drive to the basket, which the eight-months pregnant forward finished with an acrobatic teardrop layup.
“You want to leave it all out there during the Finals, and Rebekkah did that,” said Lynx forward Maya Moore, adding that Brunson has been incredibly diligent about taking her prenatal vitamins before and after every game. “They tried to get physical and knock her down whenever she drove to the basket, but she’s so big that she just shrugged off the hits like they were nothing. And when she dove for that loose ball in the third quarter, it just lifted the whole team.”
“She was just on a different level,” added Moore. “No one saw this coming at the beginning of the season when she was still suffering from morning sickness every day.”
Brunson did have several obstacles to overcome throughout the series, having to leave Game 1 for a full quarter due to abdominal cramping. Team sources said Brunson was also repeatedly forced to sub out of play in order to run to the locker room and change after lactating through her jersey.
At one point during Game 2, Brunson reportedly thought she had gone into preterm labor, but reentered the game several minutes later after realizing she had only experienced a Braxton Hicks contraction. She was then rested at the end of the decisive 88-63 victory and watched the final few minutes while lying on her side next to the bench with a large pillow between her legs.
Brunson’s regular mood swings, however, were said to work heavily in Minnesota’s favor, with the 31-year-old often bursting into tears on defense and angrily ripping the ball out of a Dream player’s hands for an all-time Finals record 67 steals.
“I have to hand it to Rebekkah—she was phenomenal, and we couldn’t figure out a way to contain her on either side of the ball,” said Dream coach Fred Williams, adding that Brunson was “simply too much” for Atlanta’s Angel McCoughtry, who is currently only in her second trimester. “Rebekkah showed amazing tenacity and heart out there. Even when she got those random food cravings and had to take a timeout to get a few hot dogs from a vendor in the stands, she got right back on the court and stepped up when her team needed her.”
“Honestly, I haven’t seen a performance like that since the 2002 Finals, when Lisa Leslie put up 17 points and 7 rebounds during her 14th hour of labor,” added Williams.
Following the victory, Brunson went on to collect the WNBA Finals MVP, becoming just the fifth pregnant player in league history to win the honor.Watch below;

Nigeria Elected To UN Security Council

The UN General Assembly has elected five new nonpermanent members to the UN Security Council.

Saudi Arabia, Chad, Nigeria, Chile, and Lithuania will serve for two years on the 15-member Security Council, starting January 1, 2014.

All five countries ran unapposed in the October 17 election, but they still needed approval from two-thirds of the General Assembly. They will replace Morocco, Togo, Pakistan, Guatemala, and Azerbaijan.

Chad, Saudi Arabia, and Lithuania have never served on the U.N.'s most powerful body, while Nigeria and Chile have both been on the Council four times previously. The Security Council has five veto-wielding permanent members -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia, and China -- and 10 nonpermanent members.

Police Raided a Sham Marriage Between Portuguese Bride and Nigerian Groom

Caught on camera: Moment police raided a sham marriage between Portuguese bride and Nigerian groom who knew nothing about one another
These picture shows police officers interrupting a sham wedding between a Nigerian man living illegally in the UK and a Portuguese woman.
Home Office immigration officers swooped on the ceremony, which was held at a registry office in Harrow, North London.
The man, 32, has now been sent back to Nigeria, and the woman, 22, is on bail until November 7.

Police swoop on a North London sham marriage
Broadcast on Sky News this morning, immigration officers said the woman may have married for cash on three separate occasions.
Police interrupted the marriage in front of guests and took the bride and groom for questioning separately.
It emerged that they knew little about each other and that the man was working in the UK illegally.
Harrow Council leader Susan Hall said: 'It is appalling to see the lengths some people go to in dressing up and organising guests for a sham marriage.
'A marriage is supposed to be the happiest day in your life. Well, in this case, the couple certainly got a day they won’t forget.'
Immigration officers question the Nigerian man, 32, after interrupting his sham marriage ceremony
According to police, the 22-year-old woman may have married for cash on three separate occasions
Questioning by police revealed the couple knew little about each other and that the man was in the illegally
The photographs and footage come after it emerged yesterday that one in five civil marriages in parts of Britain may be bogus.
Some 15,000 such ceremonies a year are taking place simply to get around immigration law, estimates one of the country’s most senior registrars, Mark Rimmer.
Last year the Home Office received nearly 1,900 warnings about potentially bogus unions.
But Mr Rimmer, the chairman of the Local Registration Services Association, said that figure represented ‘the tip of a very large iceberg’. He said that in urban areas, up to 20 per cent of marriages are ‘suspicious’.
He estimated that overall, 15,000 of the 173,000 civil weddings each year in England and Wales could be fake unions designed to evade immigration laws.
Registrars were powerless to prevent couples they suspected of faking their relationships from marrying and were forced to conduct the ceremonies ‘through gritted teeth’, he said.

Mark Rimmer, chairman of the Local Registration Services Association, said official figures are the 'tip of a very large iceberg'
Mr Rimmer said the problem was worse than at its high point in 2004 because laws drawn up since then to deal with the problem had been watered down by a series of human rights judgments to the point where they were ‘meaningless’.
Last week ministers announced a major crackdown on sham weddings, with laws designed to ensure every potential sham wedding is reported and investigated before it happens. It also gives officials more power to delay the ceremony taking place by up to 70 days.
Official figures show that the number of reported cases has tripled in the last three years. In 2009 some 561 reports were lodged with officials, a figure which nearly doubled in a year to 934 in 2010. By 2011 it stood at 1,741 and last year 1,891.
Home Office officials admit that the figure is likely to severely underestimate the scale of the problem. They put the likely number of sham weddings at between four and ten thousand a year. But Mr Rimmer says the problem is even worse than that.
He claims only the most blatant cases are flagged up and ‘borderline’ weddings which are slightly suspicious go unreported.
‘We have seen huge increases in potential sham marriages presenting themselves to us, we now have more reports from registrars going to the Home Office, but I think that is the tip of a very large iceberg, and effectively the real scale of the problem is far greater than that reported to the Home Office officially,’ he told a Sky News investigation.
‘Most registration officers are not immigration officers, they came into this business to facilitate marriage.
Immigration Minister Mark Harper said extending the notice period for marriages there will be more time to investigate and prosecute those involved in sham marriages
‘So therefore they don’t want to be cynical, unfortunately therefore what happens is, the ones that are absolutely blatant get reported and there are some that are borderline that slip through without being reported – and that is the iceberg under the water and that’s huge – it is absolutely huge.
‘In an area like anywhere in London it is multiple times per week. It would not be unreasonable to say that 20 per cent of all our marriages are suspicious, have some elements of suspicion about them. Very often the ceremony is done through gritted teeth.’
Sham weddings became a major problem in the early 2000s and Labour passed a law in 2004 requiring couples including one foreign national to get an approval certificate from the Home Office before they could wed.
But this was watered down by a series of legal judgments on challenges under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act. As a result, Mr Rimmer said, the law became ‘meaningless’.
Ministers say new measures announced will provide registrars better powers to deal with sham weddings. When the Immigration Bill becomes law, every proposed marriage in which a non-EU national will gain rights to be in Britain will be reported to the Home Office.
THE SHAM BRIDE PAID £1,300: PORTUGUESE WOMAN JAILED FOR PLOT
Salome Almeida, 22, has been jailed for 12 months for plotting a sham wedding
A Pakistani student and a Portuguese woman were sent to prison for 12 months after they were found guilty of plotting a sham wedding so he could remain in the UK.
Salome Almeida, 22, admitted to police that she had agreed to marry Wahab Khalid, 23, for £1,340.
Almeida arrived in the UK a few weeks before the wedding was due to take place and visited a register office with Khalid to give notice to marry.
Despite only being in the UK for 24 hours, she opened a bank account and received a national insurance number.
The pair were arrested in April this year at a register office in Harrow, north London, and confessed to conspiracy to facilitate a breach of immigration rules.
The notice period for marriages and civil partnerships will be increased from 15 days to 28 days for all couples, and officials will be able to increase that to 70 days in suspicious cases.
Foreign nationals from outside the EU wanting to get married in a church will first have to go to the register office and get approval – ensuring the authorities are made aware of the planned wedding.
Immigration Minister Mark Harper said: ‘Sham marriages have for too long been an easy target for migrants seeking to circumvent our immigration rules, often assisted by organised criminals.
‘By extending the marriage and civil partnership notice period to 28 days and allowing this to be increased to 70 days in some circumstances, we will make time to investigate, prosecute and remove those involved in sham marriages.’

Clinton’s Wife Fined £80 by Traffic Warden

The former United States secretary of state was in town to receive a prize from the Chatham House think tank last week for her work in promoting “a new era of US diplomatic engagement.”

But her entourage failed to buy the £3.30 ticket required to park the Mercedes for an hour on the exclusive St James’ Square in central London, and received a £80 fine.

“The former US secretary of state was parked for nearly 45 minutes without paying,” said Daniel Astaire, an elected member of Westminster City Council.

“I’m sure she will understand that we have to be fair to everyone, regardless of their status on the world stage.”

There is some good news for former first lady Clinton, however — if she pays up within 14 days, the fine will be halved to £40.

AFP reports that London Mayor Boris Johnson has previously complained about the refusal of US diplomats to pay a ten pound daily charge for the congestion zone in the centre of the capital.

How Aviation Minister Stella Oduah Forced Cash-Strapped Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 Million On Two BMW Armored Cars For Her

SaharaReporters has obtained documents further exposing the depth of corruption and mismanagement of public funds at Nigeria’s Ministry of Aviation headed by Stella Oduah. One of the documents details how Ms. Oduah compelled the cash-strapped Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to purchase two armored BMW cars for the minister. NCAA is the agency charged with ensuring the airworthiness of commercial planes flying within Nigeria’s airspace. Two officials of the agency told SaharaReporters that the NCAA did not have enough funds to upgrade equipment, send staff for critical training, and hire enough qualified staff. “Yet, all the minister is concerned about is to have two exotic BMW cars from the little money we have for operations,” one of the sources said.

The documents obtained by SaharaReporters indicate that the transaction for the purchase of the two BMW vehicles started in June 2013. However, the request for delivery of and payment for the two vehicles was fast-tracked between August 13 and 15 2013. The transaction involved the NCAA, First Bank of Nigeria, and Coscharis Motors Limited.

In a letter dated August 13, 2013, J.D Nkemakolam of the NCAA sent a letter to the Managing Director of Coscharis Motors asking the company to deliver to the NCAA two BMW 760 armored vehicles based on a pro-forma invoice dated June 25, 2013 at the cost of N127, 575,000 ($796,846.21) each. The total amount for the two vehicles came to N255,150,000, or $1,593,687.31. The NCAA’s letter directed Coscharis Motors to deliver the vehicles with sales invoices, delivery notes, and attestation documents.

Our documents reveal that the payment for the vehicles was made into a First Bank of Nigeria account (number 2018912995 with sort code: 0111152303), according to a letter signed by Godwin Umeaka, Coscharis’ group financial controller.

The two black BMW Li HSS vehicles had chases numbers WBAHP41050DW68032 and WBAHP41010DW68044 respectively. The two cars were delivered to the NCAA on August 13, 2013, where it was received by two store managers, F. Onoabhagbe and Y.A. Amzat (who is also the agency’s head of transport). On August 15, 2013, Sola Ogunsakin of the NCAA signed off to certify completion of the transaction.

In an extensive investigation of the Aviation sector after three air mishaps in Nigeria’s airspace, SaharaReporters found a pattern of questionable expenditures authorized by the minister. Several insiders within the aviation industry have told SaharaReporters that Ms. Oduah and President Goodluck Jonathan had focused on the Aviation Ministry as a source for a series of corrupt activities.

“Under Mrs. Oduah, the ministry has carried out many big capital development projects. But what outsiders don’t know is that these projects are being used to divert big amounts into private pockets,” an aviation source said.

Our sources disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had investigated several corrupt practices in the aviation sector, but added that the anti-corruption agency never had the backbone to act on their findings due to political pressure from the Presidency.

Several sources at the agency told SaharaReporters that they were not aware of the whereabouts of the two BMW cars. Some of the sources stated that the cars were handed to the minister who had converted them to private use.

Several interest groups have been demanding the removal of Ms. Oduah, citing her corrupt tendencies, mismanagement of aviation funds and incompetence. Under her watch, the Nigerian airspace has witnessed several air mishaps that claimed the lives of at least 140 people.

A Presidency source told SaharaReporters that Ms. Oduah still retains the confidence of President Jonathan. She is a close associate of Mr. Jonathan, serving as the treasurer who handled funds for the Jonathan campaign during the 2011 presidential election. She also co-chaired the campaign group known as Neighbor-To-Neighbor.

I Truly Miss Don Jazzy – D’banj

D’banj and Don Jazzy, no doubt, both dominated the music scene for nine years before the cookies crumbled and they went their separate ways. Today, they have formed individual group, D’banj-DB Records, Don Jazzy-MAVIN Records, but something still seems to be connecting the two together.

In an interview recently, D’banj confessed that he really missed Don Jazzy whom he had spent the better part of his career with.

Hear him “If I say I don’t miss Don Jazzy, I am lying. I have spent the better part of my career with him. I was married to him in a way (laughs). So I miss everything about Mo’Hits: the family, the movement, and the vibe of being in the studio with him. I miss the jokes and the arguments, but I have since keyed into the notion that nothing can stop a moving train. Nevertheless we can always do music together. The track, ‘Top of the World’ was produced by a Grammy Award Winner. The songs ‘Finally’ and ‘Don’t Tell Me Nonsense’ was produced by my producer while ‘Oliver Twist’ was produced by Don Jazzy. So, why won’t I have him on my 10 years anniversary album?”

Meanwhile,Don Jazzy confessed to Tolu "TOOLS" Oniru when she feautured him on one of the episodes of "Juice" on Ndani Tv that he missed Dbanj too.We are waiting if he would indeed accept to feature in D’banj’s 10th anniversary album.

TMG To Deploy 600 Election Observers To Anambra For Guber Polls

                           anambra_state-map
About 600 election observers would be deployed by the Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, a coalition of over 400 civil society groups, to all the 21 local government areas of Anambra State for next month’s governorship election.Speaking in Awka, the Anambra State capital when the group paid an advocacy visit to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukaogu at the weekend, TMG chairman, Ibrahim Zikirullahi said that the observers would be trained on how to transmit their information to the its headquarters in Abuja from the field for prompt collation on Election Day.

Mr. Zikirullahi frowned at a situation whereby reports of election observers came weeks after the election when somebody would have been declared winner.

His words, “TMG will use a new and innovative approach to citizen non –partisan observation, utilizing statistics and Information and Communication Technologies, ICT. As opposed to the conventional monitoring method, ICT will make it possible to report incidents to the relevant agencies as they happen. It will also make it possible to have pictorial records of incidents.”

He added that TMG would collaborate with relevant national agencies to ensure that prompt action was taken on incidents reported, adding that any person, who engaged in any form of malpractice during the election would be prosecuted.

The TMG chairman also noted that from reports so far received in Anambra State, it would appear that politicians have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing going by their non-adherence to the rules of the game.

Igho Sanomi, The 38-year-old Billionaire

Last week, new young Nigerian entrepreneurs emerged as billionaires at the Ventures Africa magazine’s list of 55 African billionaires. The list was published by the magazine last Monday. Igho Sanomi, a Nigerian oil trader, aged 38 made the list. Here’s a look into who the media-shy money entrepreneur and philanthropist is.

Sanomi is the Founder/CEO ofTaleveras Group and Chairman, Dickens Sanomi Foundation. On 17 May 1975, in Agbor Delta State, the late Dickens Patrick Sanomi, retired Assistant Inspector General of the Nigerian Police and Mabel Iyabo Sanomi, Yeye Jemo of Isotun Ijesha Kingdom, Osun State, welcomed their fifth child (and first son).

Shortly, after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Geology and Mining from the University of Jos in Northern Nigeria, Sanomi went into the business world, where he rose quickly to the position of Executive Director with Sarian Oil and Cosmos Oil AG, Cosmos Oil AG; an international Oil Trading Company with its core activities in West Africa.

He was credited to have, as the Executive Director of the company; single-handedly developed the company’s trading operations by negotiating the export and delivery of fuel oils from West Africa to the United States Gulf Coast. It was said on his website, that the billionaire, while working for the company, “developed a strategic alliance with a major international oil trading group based in Zug, Switzerland. This partnership oversaw the import and export of millions of tons of refined petroleum products to and from the West African coast.”

In 2004, Sanomi founded the Taleveras Group, of which he is currently the CEO. Some have said his decision to become an entrepreneur may have been influenced by his mother, who was a renowned medical entrepreneur. Deciding to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, he merged all of his business activities into one and founded a company with a vision and drive to become “a leading Global Energy & Service Company,” with offices in London, Geneva, Cape Town, Dubai, Ivory Coast, Abuja and Lagos.

Forbes had it that the company “trades over 100 million barrels of crude oil as well as several million tons of gasoline, LPG and jet fuel. In April 2012, Taleveras acquired production sharing contracts (PSCs) for three offshore oil blocks in Ivory Coast. In June 2013, Taleveras sold a 65 per cent stake in one of its Ivorian offshore upstream projects to Lukoil of Russia for an undisclosed price. Taleveras also owns a stake in a power distribution firm in Nigeria.”

Sanomi is also Chairman of the Dickens Sanomi Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation which he founded in memory of his late father.

He also sits as Chairman and co-Chairman of various companies Board of Directors, which he founded or co-founded. These companies’ activities span from telecoms to shipping, aviation and real estate investments, worldwide.

Council Chairman Leads Protest, Calls for Sack of Police Officer Over Brazen Violation of Citizens

Ayodele Adewale, the chairman of the Amuwo Odofin local government area in Lagos, on Monday accused an assistant commissioner of police of arbitrarily engaging in brazen violation of human rights, state laws, and traffic rules in Lagos State.

Staging an outdoor protest on Monday, Mr. Adewale described ACP Dan Okoro as a lawless officer who abuses his authority. Mr. Okoro works at the Area E Command in FESTAC town, Lagos.

Mr. Adewale led staff of the local government as well as residents of his area in a public protest. The protesters demanded the investigation and sack of Mr. Okoro

According to the protesters, the senior police officer has a habit of directing haulage tankers with metal containers to travel against the direction traffic as well as in densely populated residential areas, thereby jeopardizing people’s safety and causing damage to the environment.

One of the protesters told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that Mr. Okoro was notorious for taking bribes from tanker drivers in exchange for allowing them to carry dangerous and often unstable freight through heavily populated areas. “The haulage trucks endanger lives and property, but ACP Okoro doesn’t care because all he wants is the money that enters his pocket,” one of the demonstrators said.

In his own comment, the local government boss stated that the ACP “allows metal container vehicles of 40 feet into residential areas of FESTAC town through one-way streets, thereby destroying roads, barricades and green lawns constructed and rehabilitated by the local government.”

The local council officials said they resorted to a protest because the errant ACP had often assaulted those who cautioned him against breaking traffic laws. They alleged that the police officer even threatened some of them with a gun.

The protesters called on the Inspector General of Police, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and Governor Babatunde Fashola to intervene in order to arrest ACP Okoro’s abuse of office, harassment of civilians, and violation of traffic laws.

Mr. Okoro had been accused in the past of threatening civilians with a gun. Earlier this year, members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) petitioned Inspector General Muhammed Abubakar over an alleged threat by the officer against Christopher Orji, the president of the journalists’ association, and other members. The petition stated that Mr. Okoro had warned journalists never to write any reports involving him or any police officer in his command. The reporters stated that Mr. Okoro had threatened to use force against them when they questioned his directive.

A police source at the FESTAC station told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that Mr. Okoro was fond of boasting to them that he is “IG's boy.” He said that all police officers at the command were careful not to cross him.

The police officer said that Mr. Okoro “feels he has the guts to do anything” because of his closeness to the IGP.
